Now that businesses have begun to reopen, things are slowly starting to return to normal, and people are beginning to leave their homes more frequently. During this time, it’s still important to take the proper precautions in order to keep yourself, your family, and your community as safe as possible. Here are a few ways you can protect yourself from COVID-19 as you are going about your normal daily routine.
1. Wash Your Hands
Scrubbing your hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds kills viruses like the coronavirus. It doesn’t matter what kind of soap you use, as long as you apply the soap all over your hands and give it enough time to destroy the virus particles.
2. Use Hand Sanitizer
When you are in the middle of running errands and unable to wash your hands right away, applying a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol can kill viruses on your hands before they are able to cause any harm. If you use hand sanitizer, you should still wash your hands as soon as you get home.
3. Wear Gloves
Wearing gloves can protect your hands from coming in contact with COVID-19 in the first place when they are used properly. If you use them at the gas station, for example, you will want to remove your gloves and dispose of them before touching your phone, keys, or door handle to avoid cross-contamination.
4. Avoid Touching Your Face
Even though you are doing your best to keep your hands as clean as possible, you should still avoid touching your face as much as you can. Wearing a mask can help with this because it will prevent you from touching your face unconsciously.
5. Wear a Mask
Wearing a cloth covering over your nose and mouth helps reduce the distance that any airborne particles could travel from you to someone else. Wearing a face mask is especially important when you are in a situation where it is difficult to maintain six feet of distance between yourself and other people.
