CEREC® Crowns in Elgin, Schaumburg, & Palatine

Custom Same-Day Crowns in Elgin, Palatine, & Schaumburg

Imagine having a custom-made dental crown created and placed in just one appointment. Now with CEREC technology we can do just that! In just one visit a dental crown can be fitted, created and placed! Traditionally a crown is made from a mold, sent off to a lab to be custom-made and then placed at a future visit. However, we are able to create a dental crown in-office and have it placed in just one appointment. In addition to dental crowns, we can also create inlays, on-lays and veneers with CEREC. All of these can be created and placed in the same day.

What is CEREC technology?

CEREC, short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic, is an advanced dental technology that allows us to craft dental restorations right in the office. CEREC works by using state-of-the-art technology to design your restoration using computer software and then passes the mold to a unit that creates a ceramic restoration for your tooth. CEREC technology has several advantages, such as reducing your visits to the dentist and being a quick and effective way to resume normal activities without an uncomfortable temporary mold!

What is CEREC used for?

CEREC can be used when a patient requires dental restoration. Typically, the most common use of CEREC technology is to create ceramic dental crowns. However, CEREC also allows us to create inlays, on-lays, and veneers. When you choose to use CEREC, we will numb and prepare the tooth for scanning or make an impression of your mouth. We will then use the scan or mold of your mouth to design a model for the restoration with computer software. The design created will then be crafted with equipment in the office, letting us set and perfect the dental restoration on your tooth.

Is a CEREC crown better than a traditional crown?

The main advantage of CEREC is the amount of time it takes to restore your tooth. CEREC allows us to make crowns and other dental restoration right in the office and place it permanently during the same visit. This technology can be helpful in cases of a hectic schedule or when high pain is intolerable. Just like a traditional crown, the CEREC crown is custom-made to match the shape and shade of your natural teeth. CEREC crowns can last anywhere from ten to fifteen years and hold up as strong, if not stronger, than a traditional crown. When you come into our office, our experienced dental team would be happy to help you in determining if a CEREC crown or other CEREC restoration options are right for you!
